Ten Things To Do Close To Devonport
- Tasmania's only science discovery centre, the Imaginarium Science Centre is a
great place for kids to get hands on education about the science going on in our
everyday lives.
- Home Hill was the home of the only Australian Prime Minister to have come from
Tasmania, Joseph Lyons. The home and gardens have been perfectly preserved as
his late wife left them.
- A quaint coastal town just a short drive away, Burnie is a nice spot to visit for a
change of scene. It has pretty beaches and restaurants, and a colony of little
penguins living close to the city centre.
- Make use of the 20 kilometres of cycleways and walkways that connect the
city. Its a great way to see Devonport and also get some fresh air and exercise.

centre for the history and present art and culture of the local Aboriginal people. 18

- Historic paintings, model ships and artefacts tell amazing stories in the
Tasmanian Maritime Museum, which pays tribute to Tasmania's rich maritime
heritage.
- The Mersey River flows through Devonport, and is a source of lots of fun
activities for locals and visitors. Enjoy canoeing, kayaking and fishing, and top off your
day with a sunset cruise.
- For the ultimate chocolate experience head to the House of Anvers, where
Belgian experts make use of the fresh climate to create to perfect chocolates, truffles
and fudges.
- Cradle Mountain is a dramatic mountain peak set in a World Heritage Area. Still
glacial lakes, forests and alpine heathland characterise the beautiful landscape here,
and its all just a short drive away.
- Experience history and enjoy a half hour ride on a genuine old steam train at the
Don River Railway. The trip takes you through the Tasmanian bush and then down
Coles Beach.
