Ten Things To Do Close To Exmouth
- Turquoise Bay is about a 60 km drive south of Exmouth. A brilliant idea for a day
trip, there are coral features close to shore here that make for great snorkelling. The
perfect white beaches add to the package.
- This stretch of the coast was one of the most teacherous in the world. Vlamingh
Head Lighthouse was built nearly 100 years ago to try and avert tragedy, and today is
a major tourist attraction for the town.
- 23 kilometres south of Exmouth lies Charles Knife Canyon, which is almost like
Australia's answer to the Grand Canyon. The high gorge sides reflect the sun in a
variety of colours.
- The Cape Range National Park covers a huge expanse of land that includes
many gorges and lots of bushland. Wildife runs thick here, and the birdlife is also
spectacular.
- Ningaloo Reef has all the colour and marine diversity of the Great Barrier Reef,
and its accessible by a short swim from the shore! Its a great way for the kids to learn
to snorkel under prime conditions.
- A boat charter can take you to the Exmouth Gulf where you can watch the
Southern Right Whales that come here to feed and breed. Prepare to be blown away
by these magnificent beasts.
- Exmouth is famous as offering the opportunity to snorkel and swim with the
impressively large whale sharks. This is a once in a lifetime chance to get close to
these gentle giants.
- Yardie Creek is a pleasant place to go camping, and has a large carpark and
picnic area. There are walking tracks up the gorge sides and you can cool off in the
still waters of the creek.
- The abundance of marine life here doesnt end when you head away from the
shoreline. Big game fishermen will relish the chance to head out to the deeper water
and try their luck with the monsters of the deep.
- What better way to see the coastline than from the peace and quiet of a canoe
or kayak? Get some exercise from the paddling, and sneak up on turtles and other
sea creatures.
